The concern as to how prone students and some young adults are to socialism or communism, is the end result of the lack of good parenting and leadership they had in the home. In many cases, this was virtually non-existent, and the parents or relatives passively let the school system raise their children for them - whether public or private. In other cases there was a degree of teaching, discipline and leadership, but also carelessness, neglect or distance relationally - too many holes in the love they saw and experienced. This is usually between the parents themselves, and they and the child, not simply one or the other. It is not only what is taught that is important, but also what is "caught". The coldness or darkness in these homes shapes their view of the entire society, its authority and existing "order", regardless of what that "order" may be. Rent control and stabilization is not the answer to affordability problems, and neither is "more housing". The answer in part is in the costs of energy, reduction in property taxes and the reduction in wasteful spending on the part of both the federal and local government, which erodes the purchasing power of the dollar.
Minnesota and NYC did not have the affordability problems ten years ago that it has now. Likewise, they didn't have as many problems twenty years ago as they did ten years ago, yet there was less housing. When the reasons for this are found, you'll find the true answer to the problems it faces today. These problems, which plague both the cities and elsewhere did not happen overnight.
