Byron Donalds will not debate. His positions or lack thereof are not in keeping with the true priorities of the citizens of Florida. He is dependent on national endorsements from figures who for the most part do not even live in the state. He is dependent on visits to the 55+ retirement communities, which are largely made up of people who have no background in Florida and have little to no knowledge or appreciation of its culture and workings, and on his appearances on television interviews concerning broad, national issues. It appears that the Florida GOP has attempted to "select" him singlehandedly for governor by changing the rules in ways that disqualify all of the other candidates from the debate stage. It seems likely that they are doing this because they know that Byron Donalds is in fact a very weak candidate and a figure for the establishment machine, and they are attempting to hide him from having to face the exposure and scrutiny of the other candidates while shuttling him ...
The following are two important, informative postings from two contributors to TownHall.
They are in regard to
1. the Senate parliamentarian, and her degree of authority in the Senate as to what can or cannot get passed;
2. John Thune, his deferment to the parliamentarian, and what he can or cannot do as Senate majority leader apart from her consent:
"The parliamentarian rulings are advisory and the Rs have the option to ignore them if they wish. Will cause a political fire storm but the rulings are advisory and do not have to be conformed to, it is only custom that leads to following them. Also the VP when acting as the president of the Senate can introduce a change to any ruling by the Parl. and a simple majority of the Senate can pass that, also Thune can do the same."
"Something worth asking - why does such a powerful position exist in the Senate? A parliamentarian is not established by the US Constitution and the Senate is not bound to anything the parliamentarian says or does....
