Fundamentally, the success of a state's economy, cultural makeup, quality of life and many other things is not determined by the presence or absence of a state income tax, or the presence or absence of property taxes. Perhaps more than any other single thing, it is determined by the amount of population and zoning. Since high tax rates have fallen out of favor almost universally, statists have found an alternate way of generating more tax revenue: Adding population and housing, which involves changing zoning from agricultural / industrial to residential.
This inflates property values far beyond true market conditions and generates more revenue for the state and local governments, while depleting more and more of the wealth / savings of the middle class. Since this is usually coupled with inflationary spending, it can be said that they take more of your money, and erode what money you have left. It is the proliferation of homes, and the undermining of the ability of anyone to own a home or any form of private property, hence the 'commune effect' = Communism. This scheme serves one of the most important objectives of the "Comprehensive Blueprint for the reorganization of Human Society", now known as the Green New Deal, whose goal is to pre-empt the free market economy by confiscating wealth and locking down the land. The success or failure of communism in the United States and in Florida specifically is determined by the possession and control of land - land that could otherwise represent something far greater: Freedom; The freedom and opportunity for original, creative talent or quality employment; Freedom and pride of ownership, the freedom of travel, the presence of beauty, shade, privacy and oxygen, and the presence of original, independent sources of food in a local area should its citizens be faced with unexpected challenges related to agriculture.
Simply eliminating property taxes to compensate for high property taxes does not address the source of the problem, nor does it solve the entire constellation of problems that come from rezoning and gentrification. It takes away from the beauty and solace of creation, from needed oxygen as well as protection from the sun, and the reminder of realities greater than simply our own existence. It dislocates animals, and creates chaos and dysfunction in the ecosystem. It takes away from the reasons many people have for living where they do, which is a killer of the human spirit, and creates a crowded, hostile and disjointed culture. It also does not take into account the possible responses of county commissioners and other political figures. Byron Donalds for example, candidate for governor of Florida, wants to impose a 6-12% universal sales tax in place of property taxes as a 'counter balance', should property taxes be eliminated. The continued failure of both elected 'leaders' and other peddlers of the tax proposal to acknowledge the source of the problem and the total reality of living, rather than just one painful symptom, makes their continuous swirling around the property tax reality itself seem juvenile.

Byron Donalds will not debate. His positions or lack thereof are not in keeping with the true priorities of the citizens of Florida. He is dependent on national endorsements from figures who for the most part do not even live in the state. He is dependent on visits to the 55+ retirement communities, which are largely made up of people who have no background in Florida and have little to no knowledge or appreciation of its culture and workings, and on his appearances on television interviews concerning broad, national issues. It appears that the Florida GOP has attempted to "select" him singlehandedly for governor by changing the rules in ways that disqualify all of the other candidates from the debate stage. It seems likely that they are doing this because they know that Byron Donalds is in fact a very weak candidate and a figure for the establishment machine, and they are attempting to hide him from having to face the exposure and scrutiny of the other candidates while shuttling him ...
The following are two important, informative postings from two contributors to TownHall.
They are in regard to
1. the Senate parliamentarian, and her degree of authority in the Senate as to what can or cannot get passed;
2. John Thune, his deferment to the parliamentarian, and what he can or cannot do as Senate majority leader apart from her consent:
"The parliamentarian rulings are advisory and the Rs have the option to ignore them if they wish. Will cause a political fire storm but the rulings are advisory and do not have to be conformed to, it is only custom that leads to following them. Also the VP when acting as the president of the Senate can introduce a change to any ruling by the Parl. and a simple majority of the Senate can pass that, also Thune can do the same."
"Something worth asking - why does such a powerful position exist in the Senate? A parliamentarian is not established by the US Constitution and the Senate is not bound to anything the parliamentarian says or does....
