The California Governor's Debate included a question on the subject of affordable housing, and the causes and answers to the high home costs. Interestingly, every answer addressed only the cost of new home construction.
Conspicuously absent was any answer addressing the costs of living for either homeowners or renters in their already-existing, often longstanding homes. The true concern that most people have is not with new home construction, but the costs of living in their present homes now. This is the true affordability problem. While the candidates readily discussed their ideas about building new homes or how to make them less expensive, not one thought or concern was raised regarding the process of rebuilding the thousands of already existing homes that were destroyed in the California fires last year. These are homes and families that are waiting and truly needing to rebuild, and who are being delayed needlessly by the known Communist, Karen Bass. The complete lack of interest, intelligent thought and initiative regarding these families exposes the entire discussion propagating additional, "affordable" homes to be a fraud and a lie. It exposes the fact that the ideas they have regarding housing are not truly based on compassion, or on the reality of what is actually needed and what is not.
What further exposes this housing agenda as a fraud is the fact that people have left the State of California and have been doing so for the last five years and beyond, rather than coming to the state. Thus California is far from having a housing shortage. What then could be the true reason for wanting to build all these new homes?
If the state's leadership is not capable of, or willing to enact policies that help reduce the housing costs for people where they live now, in their present homes, they are not going to make costs reasonable with new, added home construction. It is not economically possible.
The "affordable housing" scheme propagated by the democrat politicians on stage in California is not unique to that state, but is part of the same scheme seen repeated across all different areas of the country. This means that the speech and thinking (or lack thereof) that you have seen with these candidates is that of everyone, everywhere behind the scheme.

The difference between the democrat operatives on the platform and the two republican candidates in this area is that the democrats are the politicians actively driving this "affordable housing" agenda, while the two Republican candidates seem willing to listen to other voices - hopefully it is the voices of wisdom and understanding.
