"I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace of earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong, and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep,
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men."

Christmas Season has now officially begun!

Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King:
peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
join the triumph of the skies;
with the angelic hosts proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King"

Christ, by highest heaven adored,
Christ, the everlasting Lord,
late in time behold him come,
offspring of the Virgin's womb:
veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
hail the incarnate Deity,
pleased with us in flesh to dwell,
Jesus, our Immanuel;
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King"

Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
risen with healing in his wings.
Mild he lays his glory by,
born that we no more may die,
born to raise us from the earth,
born to give us second birth;
Hark! the herald angels ...

A very interesting and important part of American history, and black culture in particular, is that of Ragtime music.

Like jazz, blues, rock and roll or swing, ragtime is completely unique and original to the United States.
It is rooted in classical music training, yet its particular style comes from the black shoe shiners of the early Twentieth Century, when one of the cultural standards in most public activity was to have polished or shined shoes. The many hours, days, months and years in this trade resulted in the men and "shoe-shine boys" deriving significant entertainment value from it, who developed it virtually into an art form. They developed many clever, time-saving and near rhythmical, show-like tactics with their rags, and with this came the featuring of "syncopated rhythm". Eventually, an entirely new style of music was born. This music was known as Ragtime music. Perhaps the greatest composer of Ragtime music was Scott Joplin, though there were others as well. His talent, ...
