Often - why do political and social media figures speak about "affordability" only in terms of what it costs to build a new house, rather than the costs of living in an already existing home?
Learn the answers to this question, and you will understand the reasons why the problem exists. Most people are not interested in buying or building a new home. They are interested in, and need to have financial conditions come back to reason where they are, among the many homes in existence. Thus there is no "shortage of housing"; We have more housing than we've ever had in this country, more than what is actually needed. There is a problem with affordability; These two issues are not one and the same.
